What is the TELUS Link service and how do I add it to my device?

Q: What is the TELUS Link service?

A: The TELUS Link service is a Push To Talk (PTT) wireless service provided over our 4G (HSPA/HSPA+) and 4G LTE networks. PTT allows you to connect instantly with team members, at the push of a button. It’s like a walkie-talkie with the coverage, cost efficiency, and advantages of the latest wireless phones.

Q: Can I add the TELUS Link service to my existing device?

A: Yes. Connect on a broad range of TELUS Link enabled devices and compatible smartphones, including iOS, Android™ and BlackBerry® 10 smartphones. Work in virtually any environment on the rugged Samsung Galaxy Rugby™ LTE smartphone or add the TELUS Link service to the latest Sonim ultra-rugged phones, coming soon. Simply add the TELUS Link service and a rate plan or feature add-on to suit your needs.

Q: Can I use the TELUS Link service on the iPhone?

A: Yes. The TELUS Link service is compatible with iPhone (iOS 7) devices.

Q: Is the TELUS Link service available to everyone?

A: No. The TELUS Link service is available for business customers only.

Q: How do I get the TELUS Link service?

A: Speak to your TELUS account representative, visit a TELUS store or contact TELUS Client Care at 1-866-558-2273 to get set up. Ask about how you can get the TELUS Link service at no charge for the first 30 days.

Can I use TELUS Link service in the US or internationally?

A: Yes, you can use the TELUS Link service everywhere you can connect to a compatible 4G LTE, 4G (HSPA+), 3G, or Wi-Fi network.

How does TELUS Link service work?

Q: How much data per minute does the TELUS Link service use?

A: It uses approximately 50 kb of data per minute (100mb = 2000 minutes).

Q: Do I need a data plan for the TELUS Link service?

A: No. TELUS Link plans come with PTT data included. If you already have a voice and data plan, the TELUS Link service will not use data from that plan while in Canada. For US travel, choose a TELUS Link roaming plan / add-on. Otherwise, TELUS Link will default to the pay-per-use Passport rate or use your existing travel data plan.

Q: Does my Push To Talk usage count towards the voice minutes allowed by my plan?

A: No. The TELUS Link service usage is independent of your voice minutes.

Q: Can I use the Push To Talk service between my existing Mike handsets and the TELUS Link service?

A: No. The TELUS Link service functions as a data service which is not compatible with the Mike IDEN network. Contact TELUS Customer Care at 1-866-558-2273 to learn about special offers available for Mike customers and to find out how to easily transition to the TELUS Link service.

Q: How many people can I add to a TELUS Link group? How many groups can I manage?

A: You can set up and manage several hundred groups online via the TELUS Link Manager or with the help of TELUS client care. Each group has an optimal capacity of 100 members, and you can access up to 40 groups on your device.

What is the network speed and coverage for TELUS link service?

Q: What is 4G LTE?

A: 4G LTE is the lightning-fast next generation network---the largest in Canada. The 4G LTE network service has manufacturer’s rated peak data download speeds of up to 75 Mbps (expected average speeds of 12 to 25 Mbps). Imagine downloading a 2 hour HD movie (1.2GB) in just a few minutes.

Q: What is 4G (HSPA+)?

A: The fast 4G (HSPA+) data network reaches 97% of Canada’s population from coast-to-coast, with manufacturers’ rated peak data download speeds of up to 42 Mbps (expected average speeds 7 to 14 Mbps). For instance, download a 2MB sales presentation on YouTube in less than a minute†. You’ll automatically switch to 4G (HSPA/HSPA+) where 4G LTE coverage is unavailable.

Q: What happens when 4G LTE coverage is not available in my location?

A: The TELUS Link service will fall back from 4G LTE to 4G (HSPA/HSPA+), offering you network coverage that can reach 97% of Canada’s population.*

Can I use the TELUS Link service on Wi-Fi?

A: Yes, as long as you have a TELUS Link plan and the TELUS Link service on your compatible smartphone, you can connect instantly via Wi-Fi.
