  1. How can I manage calls between lines?
The Mitel 1000 will allow you to share 1 or 2 business lines between your employees. The key system functionality of this solution allows you to designate extensions for up to 8 employees and any incoming calls can be directed to all or one of these extensions.

  2. How do I transfer, hold or  forward calls while still allowing calls to be diverted to voicemail?
With a traditional business line offering, if you need to transfer a call to another phone in your company you will tie up 2 business lines and subsequent callers may get busy tone. The Mitel 1000 allows you to transfer or forward calls to internal extensions without using your business line thereby allowing your customers to reach you or leave a message.

  3. How do I control telephony costs?
The Mitel 1000 gives you the ability to set up restrictions on any individual extension by attaching a class of service to each extension. A restriction could be:
    • Local Only: that extension can only make local calls (no long distance)
    • Restrict International: prevents the extension from dialling calls beginning with the codes you enter (e.g. you can allow calls to Canada, US & UK only but nowhere else)
    • Emergency Calls: that extension can only dial 911. In essence this means that no outgoing calls can be made on that extension except to 911.

  4. How do I get mobility and flexibility with this system?
The Mitel 1000 supports up to 4 cordless handsets allowing you to receive calls even if you are away from your desk. In addition, the integrated Wi-Fi capabilities will allow your business to connect up to 10 data endpoints (PC, Point Of Sale, etc) without the need for wiring.

  5. Can I access the Internet?
The Mitel 1000 supports up to 10 Wi-Fi connections and 4 wired ports for PC connectivity. The integrated firewall can allow you to restrict which data applications or Internet sites your employees can access.

  6. How many lines can I use?
The Mitel 1000 currently supports 2 business lines and therefore a maximum of 2 simultaneous calls. If your business exceeds this limit during your busiest hour then this solution may not be appropriate (BCM 50 may be a better solution).

  7. How many extensions can I run off this system?
The Mitel 1000 supports a maximum of 8 extensions.  The maximum deployment is 4 desk feature phones and 4 cordless handsets.

  8. Is this easy to install/program or move in the future?
The Mitel 1000 has been designed to connect to the TELUS network straight out of the box. Simply follow the TELUS quick start guide and your voice and data solution will be running in minutes. TELUS also offers an optional installation service for an additional fee. The administration function of the Mitel 1000 allows you to manage your voice and data configurations from one easy to use interface.

  9. I have different departments in my business.  How does this system support that?
If you maintain different departments in your business you can set up any line to ring specifically on any 1 or more specific extensions. For example if you have a dedicated line for customer service you can configure that line to ring directly on a single Cordless set, i.e. when that Cordless set rings you know it is a customer service call and can answer the phone accordingly.

You can also control when an incoming call will ring each extension. For example, you can ensure customer service calls are directed to the appropriate extension during office hours but directed to voicemail at evenings and weekends.

  10. How can I make my business sound more professional to my customers?
The Mitel 1000 will help you make your small business sound larger by providing music on hold. In addition, the night service feature will direct callers to your integrated voicemail so you can still receive calls and messages outside of office hours.

  11. Do I need a receptionist to transfer my calls?
Callers can either specify which extension or department to call thereby routing the call directly to your appropriate employee without the need for a receptionist to forward calls. This provides your business with hours of productivity gains while improving your customers’ experience with your company.

  12. Can fax be used with the Mitel 1000?
Yes. The fax machine is simply plugged into one of the extension ports at the back of the box.

  13. What is DECT?
DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) is an international standard for digital cordless telephones and provides the following capabilities:
    • Multiple handsets to one base station and one phone line. This allows several cordless telephones to be placed around the home or office, all operating from the same telephone line(s).
    • Interference-free wireless operation to around 100 to 300 metres outdoors (approx 50m indoors). Operates clearly in common congested domestic radio traffic situations. For instance, DECT is generally immune to interference from Wi-Fi networks or video senders, Bluetooth technology, baby monitors and other wireless devices.
    • Ability to make internal (intercom) calls between handsets.
    • An extended range between the telephone and base (allowing greater physical distance between the two devices)
  14. How are DECT phones set up with the Mitel 1000?
DECT phones are paired with the Mitel 1000. When you receive the system initially, you will need to pair the phones for the first time. The Mitel 1000 manual details how to do this. You can connect DECT handsets to a Mitel 1000.
  15. Can any type of DECT phone be used with the Mitel 1000?
Yes - provided they are ‘Gap Compliant’.  Functions such as ‘message indicator’ will not work.
  16. What is the range in distance of DECT phones?
The DECT handsets have a range of 300m outdoors when there is a clear line of sight between the Mitel 1000 and the handset. When the line of sight between the handset and the system is obstructed, e.g. the system is indoors and the handset is not, the range could be reduced to 50m. Thick stone walls will severely affect the range.

  17. Can you call an extension directly with the Mitel 1000?
Yes. You can edit the incoming ringing on all lines to ring where required. For example, you might only want the feature phone to ring when a call is received. To do this you will need to turn off the incoming ringing on each line for all extensions except Ext.20. Ringing can be turned off of each extension as required.
  18. What happens when a customer calls back to an extension as opposed to a main line?
Once the answering machine is activated, incoming calls can dial directly to the extensions. Only the extension numbers on the system can be used and these can not be changed (Ext.20 Ext.21 Ext.22 Ext.23 Ext.31 Ext.32 Ext.33 Ext.34). The best way to do this is to set the answering machine to answer all calls.
