The Games will be held in the Lower Mainland from July 31 to August 9, 2009. Participants from around the world will compete in more than 60 events ranging from traditional sports such as swimming and soccer to unique competitions such as police pistol combat and stair races, which will feature teams of firefighters in full gear racing up staircases.
These Games will showcase communities across the Lower Mainland and enhance British Columbia’s growing reputation as a world-class international sporting venue. The Games, which are expected to generate more than $60 million in economic activity into Lower Mainland communities, also develops comradeship amongst firefighters, police, customs and corrections officers, all who share the inherent dangers associated with their professions.
