Announcing Canada's largest 3G+ wireless network*!
Adding value to the Government of Canada
TELUS is pleased to announce the launch of our new HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access) network, based on the most advanced wireless technology available. The new next generation wireless network is the latest enhancement to TELUS' multi-network mobile strategy, offering customers the technology for increased wireless data download speeds of up to 21 megabits per second. This initiative ensures a smoother transition to fourth generation (4G) wireless technology known as long term evolution (LTE).
For the Government of Canada, discussions are now underway with PWGSC to determine how best to introduce some of the exciting capabilities and devices of HSPA+ within the Government of Canada TELUS expects to add the HSPA+ Sierra 306 Internet Key to the list of available devices within the next 4 to 6 weeks, stay tuned for more information. The Sierra 306 Internet key is the fastest wireless modem available today delivering peak speeds of up to 21 mbps and enables mobile workers, executives and operations to work as effectively on the go as in the office. Please note, the Apple iPhone 3G / 3GS will not be available through the current GoC contract with TELUS.
3G+ speeds in more places**
TELUS' HSPA+ network will provide access to broadband network speeds that will enable us to offer a superior client experience when accessing the Internet, downloading files and connecting to your enterprise network or applications. TELUS has built its HSPA+ network as a complete overlay of the current 1X/EVDO footprint covering 93% of the Canadian population. The new network will deliver a consistent experience of 3G+ speed throughout our entire HSPA+ network because there is no fall back to older, slower GPRS network technologies.
TELUS' existing wireless network portfolio now also includes Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology that powers Canada's largest third generation (3G) High Speed wireless network and TELUS' Mike network with its industry leading Push-to-Talk capability and business service. TELUS plans to continue to support both of these leading networks for the foreseeable future, providing TELUS customers the full choice of wireless solutions that best suits their needs.

Ontario's Distracted Driving Legislation: What does it mean for you?
Effective October 26th, 2009, Bill 118 became law in Ontario and drivers are banned from holding and using hand held devices to talk, text, type, dial or email while driving. While there will be a three month phase-in period that will focus on raising public awareness, Ontario police are expected to begin issuing tickets to drivers in violation of the new law beginning on February 1st, 2010. The intention of the legislation is to help make driving safer by way of reducing distractions. Similar legislation is already in place in Quebec, Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and is also being considered in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia in the near future.
In order to comply with the legislation, all devices must be safely secured to the vehicle’s interior, making them usable through a hands-free accessory like a Bluetooth headset or a traditional wired earpiece. To secure your device, mount it using an in-car cell phone kit or mount such as the TELUS Universal Car Phone Mount which uses a suction cup base that, is easy to install and can be moved from car to car.
Mike Push To Talk (PTT) handsets are treated no differently than any other cell phone. PTT calls are still allowed under the new legislation provided that certain requirements are strictly met. Mounting the devise and using wired and wireless Bluetooth headsets compatible with wireless devices or Mike handsets will help you meet the requirements To meet the growing need for handsfree requirements, TELUS has added an increased number of wired and wireless earsets, and in car handsfree units to the Government Of Canada portfolio on the GOC Portal.
