Will I have problems using Call Waiting with this?
You will need to disable the Call Waiting tone for the duration of your Internet session. This prevents the Call Waiting beep from disrupting your Internet connection. To disable Call Waiting, enter "*70," in your modem's dial string for connecting to your Internet Service Provider (i.e. *70,604-555-1245). When you log off, Call Waiting is automatically restored onto your telephone line.
To automatically disable Call Waiting when you're online and enable it when you're not online, follow these instructions:
- Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your Desktop.
-
- Windows 95, 98 and NT users, open the "Dial-Up Networking" folder.
- Windows ME users, open Control Panel, then the "Dial-Up Networking" folder.
- Windows 2000 users, open Control Panel, then Network and Dial-up Connections
- Windows XP users, choose Control Panel under the 'Other Places' heading, then Network Connections.
- Windows NT users, double-click "Dial-Up Networking", click the "Location" button, and click the box beside the "To disable call waiting, dial:" text and then select the appropriate Call Waiting code for your area (see #4 below).
- Right-click once on your TELUS Internet services (or applicable Internet service provider) icon. A pop-up menu should appear.
- In this menu, left-click on Properties.
- Enter '*70, ' (the comma and the space are important) before the telephone number that is displayed in the Telephone number field. As an example, this number should now read '*70, 604-555-1234' if 604-555-1234 is your Internet service provider's dial-up number.
- Click OK.
- Connect to the Internet and arrange for a friend or family member to call you to test that the service is working.
These instructions may not work with all Internet service providers. If you are having any problems configuring your modem to disable Call Waiting, please contact your Internet service provider for assistance.
-
Is ID information like Call Display?
Yes, Internet Call Director provides the same caller ID information as Call Display.
-
Do I need Voice Mail?
No, Internet Call Director will work without Voice Mail. There is a benefit, however, to adding Voice Mail - it enables your callers to leave a message for you when you are unable to answer your line.
-
Will this affect my answering machine?
Internet Call Director has no effect on your answering machine but you will not be able to take messages while online.
-
Is this available to all customers?
Currently, Internet Call Director is intended for residences and small businesses with one or two phone lines. Businesses with Centrex lines cannot currently subscribe.
-
Does this work with SMART Ring™ Service?
SMART Ring service gives you a second number for your phone line, with a distinctive ring so you can distinguish between calls for different parties. Internet Call Director displays the name and number of callers to both your main and SMART Ring numbers, and offers you the same options for handling calls to both numbers. If you choose, you can set up Internet Call Director to monitor calls to your main number only. Internet Call Director does not uniquely identify calls to your SMART Ring number.
-
I only have a rotary phone. Will this cause problems?
No, as long as you use pulse dialing to get onto the Internet.
-
Will Internet Call Director work when I'm directly connected to my bank via my modem?
No, Internet Call Director will only work while you are connected to the Internet through your Internet service provider. If I have a direct connection to your bank or brokerage account, it will not work
-
Will I have problems using my Enterphone with Internet Call Director?
If you live in an apartment building that has a phone-access door buzzing system, you can use ICD to "buzz" visitors in with the Open Door feature while on the Internet. When you receive an incoming Call Pop-up Window notifying you of a phone call, Open Door appears as a subset of the Play Message button. Simply click the Open The Door button. The caller hears: "Please wait while the person you are calling arranges to open the door for you".

Will ICD work with my operating system's Multiple Users settings?
Yes, ICD will work with your computer's Multiple User's settings. Although there are various ways to install ICD for multiple users, we suggest that you install the software under each profile and use the same destination directory each time.
When you customize your ICD software, remember that the changes you make could also affect the settings of other users. Depending on how you install ICD, shared settings may include caller logs, 'Individual' Auto Actions, and Nick Names. Other settings are unique to each user (i.e. Transfer Numbers and 'All Callers' Auto Actions).
Please remember that the password used when installing ICD must ALWAYS be the same. If you have forgotten your ICD password, to change your password simply click the Setup button on your ICD Main Window, and then click Password. If you are getting an "Invalid Password" message, you can visit our Forgot Password link on your Account page.
If you experience difficulty installing ICD using the above method, an alternative could be to make a shortcut to ICD.exe, placing it in the "Startup" folder of the "All Users" profile folder. The user whose profile ICW is installed to will have a unique caller log. All other users will share a caller log.
NOTE: When using multiple installations we suggest you consult your operating system's documentation for specific details.
