BlackBerry® Curve 9320 - How to update using BlackBerry Desktop Manager Windows

BlackBerry Desktop Software will need to be installed on your computer in order to use this upgrade method.

BlackBerry Desktop Software is available on the BlackBerry Desktop Software CD included with your device. The CD contains an installation wizard that guides you through the installation process. If you no longer have this CD, you can download and install the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Software online.

Download and install BlackBerry Desktop Software

BlackBerry Desktop Software allows you to coordinate the link between your BlackBerry smartphone, BlackBerry tablet, and your computer. You can:

  1. Install BlackBerry Device Software updates on your BlackBerry smartphone or tablet.
  2. Synchronize your calendar, contacts, and organizer.
  3. Manage your applications and games.
  4. Transfer media files such as music, pictures, and videos between your BlackBerry and computer.
  5. Back up downloaded content from your BlackBerry to your computer.

How to back up your data using BlackBerry Desktop Software

Before you install your BlackBerry Device Software update, make sure to back up your device data. Once you have installed your BlackBerry Device Software update, you can restore your backed up data to your BlackBerry.

Back up your device data

  1. Once you have downloaded and installed BlackBerry Desktop Software, plug your BlackBerry into your computer and launch the BlackBerry Desktop Software application.
  2. Click Device
  3. Select Back up
  4. In order to easily find the back up file, save the file to your Desktop.
  5. Click Save

Restore your device data

  1. Plug the BlackBerry into your computer and launch the BlackBerry Desktop Software application.
  2. Click Device
  3. Click Restore
  4. Select and open the back up file created.
  5. Select Yes to proceed.

How to update your BlackBerry using BlackBerry Desktop Software for PC:

You can use two methods for updating your BlackBerry Device Software:

Automatic update

  1. Once BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed, plug the BlackBerry into your computer.
  2. Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  3. BlackBerry Desktop Software will automatically check for device software updates. If an update is available, the Application Updates Available window will appear.
  4. Select Update Now to proceed. If no updates are found, you can try performing a manual update.

Manual update

  1. Visit the BlackBerry Software Download Website
  2. Click the Please Select A Product menu, then select your BlackBerry model from the list.
  3. Click Next
  4. Click Download
  5. Complete all required fields, then click Next.
  6. If you agree to the Terms and Conditions, select Agree, then click Next.
  7. Click Download
  8. Click Run. The download begins.
  9. Once the download is completed, the InstallShield Wizard window appears. Click OK.
  10. Follow the InstallShield Wizard prompts.
  11. Once the installation is finished, plug your BlackBerry into your computer.
  12. Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  13. Click Device
  14. Select Update my device.

BlackBerry Desktop Software system requirements for PC

  • BlackBerry with device software 4.2 or higher, and a media card or built-in media storage
  • Intel® compatible 1GHz or higher processor
  • 512 MB of RAM or more
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2 or higher, Windows Vista™, Windows 7
  • Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 or an active Internet connection
  • One of the following email programs:
    • Microsoft® Outlook® 2003, 2007 or 2010 (corporate or workgroup installation) with an email account on a Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 Service Pack 4 or later that can receive messages from the Internet
    • IBM® Lotus Notes® 5.0.6 or higher with an email account on an IBM® Lotus® Domino® Server version 5.03 or later (5.0.12 or later recommended) that can receive messages from the Internet
  • USB 1.1 or higher USB port
  • Windows Media® Player version 10 or higher for music synchronization
  • Screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater
