Sierra Wireless Aircard - Can't browse the Web

There could be a number of reasons why you can’t browse the web. To resolve the issue, try the following.

Check signal strength

Your present location may have weak network coverage.

  • Make sure you have at least two bars of signal strength with 3G in the network indicator.
  • If you have low signal strength, move to a location with better coverage. Concrete and steel buildings may be hindering reception, especially in elevators and underground locations like basements, subways, and tunnels.

Check the Website address

You may have entered an invalid Web address (URL).

  1. Make sure the Web address is correct.
  2. Try another Web address such as If you can browse other websites, your data connection is not the problem.

Restart your computer

Restarting your computer causes its software to reload, which can fix some problems.

Check Coverage Maps

Check our network maps to be sure that you’re in an area with coverage.

Check your browser

Your web browser may be set to offline status. If your web browser is Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, you can correct this setting by doing the following.

  1. From the Home screen, click Menu.
  2. Launch your web browser.
  3. From the taskbar, click File.
    NOTE: If you're using Internet Explorer and don't see the File tab, press the Alt key until it appears.
  4. Make sure Work Offline does not have a check mark beside it. If it does; click it.
  5. Highlight TELUS Web.
  6. Close and relaunch your web browser.
  7. Your web browser can connect to the internet.

Check proxy settings

Your browser may have proxy settings which restrict its access to the web. To change these settings, try the following.

NOTE: If you’re using a corporate computer, you may need to configure a proxy server for your Web browser. Check with your network administrator.

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
  2. From the taskbar, click Tools.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. Click the Connections tab.
  5. Click LAN settings.
  6. Clear the Use a Proxy Server for your LAN checkbox.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close and relaunch your web browser.
  9. The proxy server is disabled.

Clear your browser's cache

Clearing your browser’s cache and cookies frees up memory and makes browsing the Web faster.

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
  2. From the browser taskbar, click Tools.
    NOTE: If you don't see this tab, press the Alt key on your keyboard.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. Click the General tab.
  5. Click Delete.
  6. Select the following:
    • Temporary Internet files
    • Cookies
  7. Click Delete.
  8. Close and relaunch your browser.
  9. Your browser cache is cleared.
