Samsung GALAXY S4 - How to set up your smartphone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot

You can set up your smartphone as a Wi-Fi™ source for computers and other smartphones with Wi-Fi capability.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select More networks under the Connections tab.
  4. Select Tethering and portable hotspot.
  5. Tap Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
  6. Tap Configure.
  7. Type the name you would like to use to identify your Wi-Fi hotspot in the Network SSID field.
  8. Select the Security type from the drop down list. We recommend WPA2 PSK encryption for enhanced security.
  9. Type the desired Password for the Wi-Fi hotspot connection.
    NOTE: All Wi-Fi capable devices that attempt to connect to your hotspot must enter this password. Use a password to prevent unauthorized access that may result in additional data charges.
  10. Tap Save.
  11. Turn on Portable Wi-Fi hotspot at the top of the screen.
  12. Your portable Wi-Fi hotspot is set up.
