Frequently Asked Questions About Domain Names

We offer secure and reliable domain name hosting for your business. The registration process is simple and we’ll walk you through it if you need help.

What is a domain name?
A domain name is your company’s main address on the Internet. The domain name (yourcompany.com) is part of the address that you will see in the address bar in your browser when you go to any website.

Why do I need to register a domain name?
Registering a domain name for your business or organization and creating a website using your own company’s domain name is essential to your marketing efforts. A domain unique to your company gives your business credibility and a unique online identity.

Do you handle the domain registration process?
Yes. TELUS will process a new domain name registration.

Can I transfer an existing domain name to your servers?
Yes, simply specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for us to complete the transfer process, which typically takes a matter of days.

Can you host international domain names?
Yes, we can host any domain name extension. We will assist you in the registration of these names where possible. Otherwise, we will provide you with the information that you need to register the name yourself.

How will I be able to tell if my desired domain name is already taken?
Before registering a domain name online with TELUS, you will be required to do a "WHOIS" search during our online registration process to see if your requested domain name is available. If the domain request comes up with "no match", you will then be able to register that domain name.
