Manual configuration of Polycom handsets and Cisco ATA devices for TELUS BVoIP service

BVoIP enables you use your own Polycom handsets or Cisco ATA devices with it. If your VoIP devices were not purchased directly from TELUS, the following instructions will guide you through the manual configuration steps to get them properly registered with your service. VoIP devices purchased directly from TELUS do not require manual configuration as they are shipped to you with all the necessary programming already on them. However, if your device does not register to your BVoIP service as expected, you can attempt to solve the connection issue using the manual configuration process below.

Polycom Handset

The following instructions will allow you to configure a new (or factory defaulted) Polycom VVX501,VVX301, VVX101 handset using firmware version 5.x. For the VVX501 the options are accessed by pressing the touch screen but for the first one you need to press HOME Home button.

For the VVX301 and VVX101 the options are accessed by using the navigation and select keys Select

  1. Press the following keys in sequence
    HOME Home button, Settings Gear, 2 (Advanced), then enter password 456.
  2. Press the following keys in sequence
    1 (Admin settings), 1 (Network configuration), Provisioning server
  3. Press Server type field, press https from the menu
  4. Press ServerAddr, type dpm.bvoip.telus.com (in URL mode) by pressing the corresponding buttons at the keypad. Press “* “ key for “.”

    Note: for VVX301 and VVX101 you need to press the “edit” button to edit the field
  5. Press the Back Arrow < twice on the screen on the VVX501 or press the “back” key twice for the VVX301 and VVX101 you need to press the “back”
  6. Press Save config
  7. At this stage, the device should reboot itself. If this is not the case, reboot it manually by pressing HOME Home button, Settings Gear, 1 (Basic), 12 (Restart Phone)

The following instructions will allow you to configure a Polycom IP335, IP550, IP670 ou IP6000 handset using firmware version 3.x or 4.x.

To find out which firmware version your Polycom device is currently using, press the following key sequence :

  • Menu, 2, 1, 2, 1

If your device uses firmware version 3.x, use the steps below to manually configure it:

  1. Press the following keys in sequence
    • Menu, 3 (Settings), 2 (Advanced), then enter password 456.
  2. Press the following keys in sequence
    • 1 (Admin settings), 1 (Network configuration), press the down arrow until Server Menu is highlighted, then press Enter (check mark)
  3. While in the Server type field, press the Enter (check mark) key. Select http using the arrow keys, then press the Ok button on the screen to confirm.
  4. Use the arrow keys to navigate down the list to ServerAddr, then press the Enter (check mark) key.
  5. Follow the steps below based on your device model number :
    • Polycom IP335
      1. Press the # (pound) key until URL appears up top.
      2. Use the keypad to type dpm.bvoip.telus.com using the * (star) key for dots.
      3. Press the Ok button on the screen.
      4. Press the left arrow key twice.
      5. Press the Yes button on the screen.
    • Polycom IP550 or IP670
      1. Press the 1/A/a softkey until a/Ascii appears up top.
      2. Use the keypad to type dpm.bvoip.telus.com using the * (star) key for dots.
      3. Press the Ok button on the screen.
      4. Press the Back button twice on the screen.
      5. Select Save config then press the Select button on the screen.
      6. Press the Yes button on the screen.
  6. At this stage, the device should reboot itself. If this is not the case, reboot it manually by pressing Menu, 3, 1, 6.

If your handset uses firmware version 4.x, use the steps below to manually configure it:

  1. Press the following keys in sequence
    • Menu, 3 (Settings), 2 (Advanced), then enter password 456.
  2. Appuyez dans l'ordre sur
    • 1 (Admin settings), 1 (Network configuration), select Prov server then press Enter (check mark).
  3. Use the arrow keys to navigate down the list to Server type, then press the Enter (check mark) key. Select http using the arrow keys, then press the Ok button on the screen to confirm.
  4. Use the arrow keys to navigate down the list to ServerAddr, then press Enter (check mark).
  5. Follow the steps below based on your device model number :
    • Polycom IP335
      1. Press the # (pound) key until URL appears up top.
      2. Use the keypad to type dpm.bvoip.telus.com using the * (star) key for dots.
      3. Press the Ok button on the screen.
      4. Press the left arrow key twice.
      5. Press the Yes button on the screen.
    • Polycom IP550, IP670 or IP6000
      1. Press the 1/A/a softkey until a/Ascii appears up top.
      2. Use the keypad to type dpm.bvoip.telus.com using the * (star) key for dots.
      3. Press the Ok button on the screen.
      4. Press the Back button twice on the screen.
      5. Select Save config then press the Select button on the screen.
      6. Press the Yes button on the screen.
  6. At this stage, the device should reboot itself. If this is not the case, reboot it manually by pressing Menu, 3, 1, 8.

Cisco ATA

The following instructions will allow you to configure a Cisco SPA112 et SPA8000 ATA device.

  1. Connect the new Cisco SPA112 or SPA8000 ATA device to a DHCP enabled network.
  2. Connect an analog phone handset to the ATA device's port 1.
  3. Find out which IP address has been assigned to the ATA device by dialing **** on the handset, followed by 110#. A voice will then read you the IP address over the phone.
  4. Using a Web browser, connect to the ATA device's IP address, then use admin as both username and password to access the configuration page.
  5. Click on Voice, then on Provisioning. Based on your ATA device's model number, you will have to enter the correct values to set for each field or parameter in the configuration page, while leaving all other fields to their default value.
    • If you are configuring a Cisco SPA112 device, enter the following values :

  6. Click on Save to confirm changes made to the ATA device's configuration.
