How To Set Up Your Email on Any Computer

A step-by-step guide to configuring your TELUS email on different platforms and with various software packages.

Set up TELUS email for your computer using Office Outlook® 2003

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2003, do the following.

  • From your desktop, click Start.
  • From the Start menu, click Microsoft Office Outlook.
  • From the top taskbar, click Tools.
  • Click E-mail Accounts....
  • The E-mail Accounts window is displayed. Select Add a new e-mail account.
  • Click Next.
  • Select IMAP.
  • Click Next.
  • Type the following information:
    • Your name: The name that will be displayed to recipients of your sent email
    • E-mail Address: Your TELUS.net email address
    • User Name: Your email account username
    • Password: Your email account password
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.telus.net
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.telus.net
  • Check the Remember password check box.
  • Click More Settings ....
  • Under the Outgoing server tab, place a check mark in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
  • Under the Advanced tab, edit Outgoing server (SMTP): to 1025.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.


Set up TELUS email for your computer using Outlook® Express 6

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Microsoft® Outlook® Express 6, do the following.

  • From your desktop, click Start.
  • From the Start menu, click Microsoft Outlook Express.
  • From the top taskbar, click Tools.
  • Click Accounts....
  • The Internet Accounts window is displayed. Click Add.
  • Select Mail....
  • Type your name. When you're finished, click Next.
  • Type your TELUS.net email address. When you're finished, click Next.
  • From the incoming mail server drop-down menu, select IMAP.
  • In the corresponding fields displayed, type the following:
    • Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: imap.telus.net
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.telus.net
  • Click Next.
  • In the corresponding fields displayed, type the following:
    • Account name: Your email account username
    • Password: Your email account password
  • Check the Remember password check box.
  • Click More Settings ....
  • Under the Outgoing server tab, place a check mark in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
  • Under the Advanced tab, edit Outgoing server (SMTP): to 1025.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Microsoft Outlook Express 6.


Set up TELUS email for your computer using Office Outlook® 2007

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2007, do the following.

  • From your desktop, click Start.
  • From the Start menu, click Microsoft Office Outlook.
  • From the top taskbar, click Tools.
  • Select Account Settings.
  • From the E-mail tab, click New.
  • Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, then click Next.
  • The Auto Account Setup screen is displayed. Check the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box.
  • Click Next.
  • Select Internet E-mail, then click Next.
  • The Internet E-mail Settings screen is displayed. Type the following information:
    • Your Name: The name that will be displayed to recipients of your sent email
    • E-mail Address: Your TELUS.net email address
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.telus.net
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.telus.net
    • User Name: Your email account username
    • Password: Your email account password
  • Check the Remember password check box.
  • Click More Settings ....
  • Under the Outgoing server tab, place a check mark in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
  • Under the Advanced tab, edit Outgoing server (SMTP): to 1025.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.


Set up TELUS email for your computer using Office Outlook® 2010

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2010, do the following.

  • From your desktop, click Start.
  • From the Start menu, click Microsoft Office Outlook.
  • From the top taskbar, click File.
  • From the left pane, click Info.
  • Click +Add Account.
  • The Add New Account window is displayed. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types.
  • Click Next.
  • Select Internet E-mail.
  • Click Next.
  • Type the following information:
    • Your Name: The name that will be displayed to recipients of your sent email
    • E-mail Address: Your TELUS.net email address
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.telus.net
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.telus.net
    • User Name: Your email account username
      • NOTE: If you don’t know your TELUS email username, log in to your account to retrieve it. Register if you don’t have one.
    • Password: Your email account password
  • Check the Remember password check box.
  • Click More Settings ….
  • Under the Outgoing server tab, place a check mark in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
  • Under the Advanced tab, edit Outgoing server (SMTP): to 1025.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Microsoft Office Outlook 2010.

Set up TELUS email for your computer using Office Outlook® 2013


Note: If you are an existing customer who has recently been migrated to the new telus.net platform, please ensure you follow the steps below before
deleting your old account to ensure no emails are lost.

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2013, do the following.

  • From your desktop, click Start.
  • From the Start menu, click Microsoft Office Outlook 2013.
  • From the top taskbar, click File.
  • From the left pane, click Info.
  • Click +Add Account.
  • The Add New Account window is displayed. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types.
  • Click Next.
  • Select IMAP.
  • Click Next.
  • Type the following information:
    • Your Name: The name that will be displayed to recipients of your sent email
    • E-mail Address: Your TELUS.net email address
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.telus.net
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.telus.net
    • User Name: Your email account username
      • NOTE: If you don't know your TELUS email username, log in to your account to retrieve it. Register if you don't have one.
    • Password: Your email account password
  • Check the Remember password check box.
  • Click More Settings ....
  • Under the Outgoing server tab, place a check mark in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
  • Click on Advanced.
  • Change the Outgoing mail server (SMTP): to 1025.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.
  • Test your account by sending yourself an email from the newly created account. This tests the outgoing and incoming settings.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Microsoft Office Outlook 2013.


Set up TELUS email for your computer using Windows® Mail

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Windows® Mail, do the following.

  • From your desktop, click Start.
  • From the Start menu, click Windows Mail.
  • From the top taskbar, click Tools.
  • Select Accounts.
  • From the E-mail tab, click New.
  • The Internet Accounts window appears. From the Mail section, select Supplied by your ISP (default).
  • From the right pane, click Add....
  • Select E-mail Account, then click Next.
  • Type your display name, then click Next.
  • Type your TELUS.net email address, then click Next.
  • The Set up e-mail servers screen is displayed. Complete these settings as follows:
    • Incoming e-mail server type: IMAP
    • Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: imap.telus.net
    • Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name: smtp.telus.net
      • NOTE: Place a check mark in the Outgoing server requires authentication check box.
  • Click Next.
  • The Internet Mail Logon screen is displayed. Type your TELUS.net username and password.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.
  • Select the newly created account, and click Properties.
  • Ensure there is a checkmark next to My server requires authentication under the Servers tab, then click on Settings.
  • Edit the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field to 1025, then click OK.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Windows Mail.


Set up TELUS email for your computer using Windows® Live™ Mail 2012

Before you begin, ensure you've already downloaded and installed Windows Essentials 2012 on your computer. To learn more, visit the Microsoft® Website.

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Windows® Live™ Mail 2012, do the following.

  • Launch Windows Live Mail.
  • From the top taskbar, click Accounts.
  • Click Email. The Add your email accounts window appears.
  • Complete the required information as follows:
    • Email address: Your TELUS.net email address. For example, john.doe@telus.net.
    • Password: Your TELUS.net email password.
  • Check the Remember this password check box.
  • Display name for your sent messages: The desired name that will be displayed to recipients of your sent email.
  • Check the Manually configure server settings check box.
  • When you're finished, click Next. The configure server settings screen is displayed.
  • Complete the required information as follows:
    • Incoming server information:
      • Server type: Select IMAP
      • Server address: imap.telus.net
      • Port: 143
  • Clear the Requires a secure connection (SSL) check box
  • Authenticate using: Clear text
  • Logon user name: Your TELUS.net email username.
    • NOTE: If you don't know your TELUS email username, log in to your account to retrieve it. Register if you don't have one.
  • Outgoing server information:
    • Server address: smtp.telus.net
    • Port: 1025
  • Clear the Requires a secure connection (SSL) check box
  • Place a check mark in the Requires authentication check box
  • When you're finished, click Next.
  • Click Finish.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Windows Live Mail.


Set up TELUS email for your computer using Apple® Mail

To set up your TELUS.net email account for use with Apple® Mail, do the following.

  • From the dock, click the Mail icon.
  • NOTE: This icon looks like a stamp.
  • Select Add Account from the File menu.
  • Type the following information:
    • Full Name: The name that will be displayed to recipients of your sent email
    • Email Address: Your TELUS.net email address
    • Password: Your TELUS.net email password
  • Click Continue.
  • If prompted to manually create your account, click Continue. The Incoming Mail Server screen is displayed. Complete these settings as follows:
    • Account Type: Select IMAP
    • Description: TELUS Email
    • Incoming Mail Server: imap.telus.net
    • User Name: Your TELUS Email username or email address
    • Password: Your TELUS.net email password
  • Click Continue.
  • Ensure the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) check box is not checked and authentication is Password.
  • Click Continue.
  • The Outgoing Mail Server screen is displayed. Complete these settings as follows:
  • Description: TELUS Email
  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.telus.net
  • Verify the following check boxes:
  • Use only this server: Checked
  • Use Authentication: Checked
  • Click Continue.
  • The Outgoing Mail Security screen is displayed. Do the following:
  • Clear the Use Secure Sockets (SSL) check box.
  • From the Authentication menu, select Password.
  • Click Continue.
  • Review your Account Summary. If your settings are correct:
    • Check the Take account online check box.
    • Click Create.

  • Select Preferences from the File menu.
  • Click Accounts.
  • Click on the outgoing mail server (SMTP), then click on Edit SMTP Server List.
  • Select smtp.telus.net, then click on Advanced.
  • Select Use custom port, then enter 1025.
  • Click OK.

Your TELUS.net email account is set up for use with Apple Mail.
