Back up your Windows Phone 7 device

A Hotmail/Live account is required when setting up a Windows Phone 7 device in order to synchronize your contacts to Hotmail. Yahoo and Gmail can be accommodated later to add the synchronization of those accounts.

While connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network, complete the following steps to back up your Windows Phone 7 contacts to the desired account:

  1. Tap Phone.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap the desired account.
  5. Ensure Contacts is selected.

On a computer, login into your Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo account and verify that all contacts have been stored in the contacts section.

Transfer your contacts to your iPhone

Connect the new iPhone to a Wi-Fi or cellular network and perform the following steps:

Gmail

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account.
  4. Select Microsoft Exchange.
  5. Enter your full Gmail address in the email and username fields.
  6. Enter your Password.
  7. Leave the Domain field blank.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. In the Server field, type m.google.com.
  10. Set Sync to On under Contacts, Calendars, and tap Save.

Yahoo

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account.
  4. Select Yahoo.
  5. Enter your full email address in the email field.
  6. Enter your password.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Set Sync to On under Contacts, Calendars, and tap Save.

Hotmail

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account.
  4. Select Hotmail.
  5. Enter your full email address in the email field.
  6. Enter your password.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Set Sync to On under Contacts, Calendars, and tap Save.
  9. Your contacts and calendar entries synchronize with your iPhone.
