Nexus 5 - Back up your smartphone or synchronize your contacts and calendar
You can back up your contacts list, and synchronize your calendar, with your Gmail account.
If you've set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone, it should automatically be backed up with your Gmail account.
You don't have a Gmail email account set up on your smartphone
If you haven't set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone, do the following.
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll down to Accounts and select Add account.
- Select Google.
- Tap Existing.
- Type your Gmail email address.
- Type your Gmail password.
- Tap the right arrow.
- Tap OK.
- Tap Not now.
- Tap Not now.
- Select the options you would like to synchronize with your Google account.
- Tap the right arrow.
- Your smartphone contacts and calendar are synchronized with your Gmail account.
You've already set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone
If you've already set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone but would like to ensure it's backed up with your Gmail account, do the following.
Select your personal data you would like to sync
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll down to Accounts and select Google.
- Select the desired Gmail account.
- Select the content you'd like to back up. A check mark appears next to each selected item.
- Tap Menu at the top right corner of your screen.
- Select Sync now to confirm your selections.
- Your smartphone contacts and calendar are synchronized with your Gmail account.
Back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon at the bottom of your screen.
- Tap Settings.
- Select Backup & reset.
- Check the Back up my data checkbox.
- Select Backup account.
- Set the desired backup account.
- Place a check mark in the Automatic Restore checkbox.
- Your smartphone settings are backed up to Google servers.
