Samsung Galaxy S4 mini - How to backup and synchronize your phone

You can back up your contacts list, and synchronize your calendar, with your Gmail account.

If you've set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone, it should automatically be backed up with your Gmail account.

You don't have a Gmail email account set up on your smartphone

If you haven't set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone, do the following.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Add account under the Accounts tab.
  4. Select Google.
  5. Tap Existing.
  6. Type your Gmail email address.
  7. Type your Gmail password.
  8. Tap Done.
  9. Tap OK.
  10. Tap Not now.
  11. Select the options you would like to sync.
  12. Tap the right arrow.
  13. Your smartphone contacts and calendar are synchronized with your Gmail account.

You've already set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone

If you've already set up a Gmail email account on your smartphone, but would like to ensure it's backed up with your Gmail account, do the following.

  1. Select your personal data you would like to sync
  2. From the Home screen, tap Menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Google under the Accounts tab.
  5. Select the desired Gmail account.
  6. Select the content you'd like backed up with your Gmail account.
  7. Tap Sync now to confirm your selections.
  8. Your smartphone contacts and calendar are synchronized with your Gmail account.
  9. Back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers
  10. From the Home screen, tap Menu.
  11. Select Settings.
  12. Select Back up and reset under the Accounts tab.
  13. Select the Back up my data checkbox.
  14. Select Backup account.
  15. Set the desired backup account.
  16. Your smartphone backs up to the Google servers.
