Sony Xperia Z1 - How to update your smartphone software

Keep your smartphone running efficiently by using the latest available software.

If your Android software version is not 4.0.4, you are eligible for a software upgrade.

Before you update your smartphone, you need to know your current software version.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select About phone.
  4. Scroll down to Android version.
  5. If your software version is 14.2.A.0.290 you don't need an upgrade.
  6. If you need to upgrade your software, tap Software Update and follow your Smartphone's instructions.
    NOTE: You will not be able to place or receive calls during the software installation procedure.
  7. The software update is installed on your smartphone.

Confirm the software update installation was successful

To confirm that the software update was successfully installed, do the following.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select About phone.
  4. Scroll down to Android version.
  5. Your software version should display 14.2.A.0.290.

If the software version does not match the above version then the software was not updated properly. Try the following:

  1. Disconnect the smartphone from your computer.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Reinsert the battery.
  4. Reconnect the smartphone to your computer and launch Sony PC Companion 2.1 to try the upgrade once again.
