TELUS Trade-In Program

The TELUS Trade-In Program lets you trade your used cell phone, tablet or accessory for a credit you can apply towards a new device. This program is available to all new and existing TELUS business customers.

What you need to know

  • An in-store appraisal is required to determine the trade-in value of your device, which is based on its condition and FMV (Fair Market Value).
  • You can trade in one (1) device for a credit when you activate a new account, or upgrade or renew an existing one.
  • There is no minimum contract term required.
  • Your device must be in working condition, and you must turn in its battery and battery cover in order to receive your trade-in credit.
  • Your trade-in credit is non-transferable and has zero cash value.
  • Your trade-in credit must be redeemed in-store at the time you trade in your device. If your credit is not used at this time, it becomes null and void.
  • Your trade-in credit must be applied toward the cost of any new phone first. Any remaining credit can be used toward accessories only.
  • All trade-ins are final. Once you've traded-in your device, it cannot be reclaimed.
  • You can trade in any mobile device, from any mobile carrier worldwide, except smart hubs and routers.

Devices for recycling

  • All mobile devices, batteries and accessories for recycling can be dropped off at a participating TELUS Trade-In Program location at any time. Find a store. There is no limit to the number of items you can bring in. No credits will be issued for recycled items and no activation or renewal is required. No device brought in to be recycled can be reclaimed.
  • TELUS will donate $3 to Tree Canada for each recycled device.

Before you trade or recycle

Your mobile device contains important account information and personal data. Before you bring your device in to make a trade or to recycle it, you need to clear your information from it. Here are some directions for preparing your device for the TELUS Trade-in Program.

Step 1: Deactivate “FindMyiPhone” or “Reactivation Lock”

If you have an iPhone with “FindMyiPhone” switched on, or a Samsung device with “Reactivation Lock” switched on, this feature must be turned off. To do this, you will need your AppleID password or Samsung account number.

Follow the instructions for your device below.

  • iPhone
    • From the Home screen, tap Settings
    • From the Settings menu, select iCloud
    • Scroll down to FindMyiPhone. If it is turned on, turn it off
    • Click OK on the confirmation screen
    • Enter your AppleID password, then click Turn Off
    • A confirmation screen will confirm that FindMyiPhone has been turned off
  • Samsung
    • From the Home screen, tap Apps
    • From Apps, select Settings
    • Navigate to Security to find Reactivation Lock. Ensure there is no green check mark
    • Reactivation Lock has been disabled

Step 2: Disable TELUS services on your device

Follow these steps to disable TELUS network services on your device:

  • If your mobile device uses the 4G network, remove your TELUS SIM card from the device before trading it in or recycling it. In most cases, your old SIM card will work with your new phone.
  • If your mobile device uses the 3G network, you can do one of the following:
    • Visit a TELUS store. Use our Store Locator to find the closest location. Your device can be deactivated when you trade it in or recycle it.
    • Contact us to have your device deactivated.

Step 3: Remove your memory card

If your device has a memory card (micro-SD), it must be removed before trading your device in or recycling it. Memory cards are usually black, and about half the size of a SIM card.

Step 4: Reset your device to its original factory settings

To protect your privacy, it’s a good idea to reset your device to its original factory settings. Resetting deletes your ringtones, contacts, pictures, messages and other downloaded content.
