Huawei B890 4G LTE Smart Hub - Can't send or receive text messages

There could be a number of reasons why you can't send text messages. To resolve the issue, try the following.

Check the phone number

Your message may have an incorrect phone number or address. Make sure the phone number is correct.

Enter the phone number of the recipient using one of the following methods:

  • North America destination: Type the 10-digit phone number.
  • International destination: Check the list of eligible countries worldwide then type 011, followed by the country code and the mobile phone number.

Check signal strength

The signal strength may be low.

  1. Launch your Internet browser on your computer.
  2. Type http://huawei.smarthub in the address bar.
  3. Log in using the Admin account. Typically, the password is admin unless you have changed it.
  4. Click Settings in the top menu.
  5. Select System in the left column.
  6. Select Diagnosis.
  7. The line RSSI/RSRP is the signal strength measured in decibel.
  8. Ex: -50 is a very good signal and -110 is a weak signal.
  9. If you have low signal strength, try to move the Smart Hub to a location with better coverage. Concrete and steel buildings may be hindering reception, especially in underground locations like basements

Program the SMS service centre number

If you are not able to send text and picture messages, make sure that the correct SMS service center number is set up on your Smart Hub.

  1. From your computer, launch your Internet browser.
  2. Type http://huawei.smarthub in the address bar.
  3. Log in using the Admin account. Typically, the password is admin unless you have changed it.
  4. Click SMS in the top menu.
  5. Click SMS Settings in the left column.
  6. Type +16475800172 in the SMS center number field.
  7. Set SMS report to Disabled
  8. Click Apply.
  9. The SMS service center number is set up on your Smart Hub.
